The Piano Room

The Piano Room’s 2023 Summer Camp was a huge success!! Students shared 6 musically fun filled days laughing and learning while making new friendships! Each day we explored music theory and rhythm through exciting games and activities. Practicing melodic and rhythmic notations through bucket drumming, Boomwhackers and rhythm cup explorations was motivating and fun! We celebrated the 4th of July with a Boomwhacker performance of Katy Perry’s “Firework”, festive music games and a patriotic performance of Yankee Doodle on all the keyboards! Over the course of two weeks, we also learned a four part piano ensemble, “Volcano” by Dorla Aparicio and celebrated Christmas in July with a silly musical parody on “Up on the Housetop” by Andrea Dow. Our Musical Olympics day was a hit, filled with thrilling outdoor musical relays and games! WE HAD SO MUCH FUN!!

We kicked off summer with a fun workshop to celebrate the end of the school year! Students performed for one another their prepared musical selections and then we participated in exciting games and activities! New students learned about our tradition of the "Wacky Tourist Relay Race" and had a blast! Keeping with the theme of summertime, we composed "Surf's Up Improv" with our groups - Thank you, Andrea Dow, for the awesome inspiration! Creativity was certainly in the air along with endless smiles and amazing music! :) Hooray for summer!!

On January 19, 2020, students and I performed in the 22nd Annual Cecilian Monster Concert, held at Brookdale Community College Performing Arts Center in Lincroft, NJ. This was a magnificent piano extravaganza with 16 grand pianos performing on stage at the same time! Piano students and teachers from the area performed under the direction of talented conductor, Therese Whelan.
